Henrietta Green, founder of the British Charcuterie Live Awards, has announced that the 2020 awards will be held in July next year, with new classes, the addition of an advisory board, and a new judging panel and structure. Entry is now open, and the results will be revealed in early September.

New for 2020 will be the introduction of a Class for British Snacking Charcuterie, and a New Star Award – Best British Smoked Product, bringing the number of classes to nine and star awards to seven. In addition, new awards have been created to find Best British Charcuterie Counter, and for the Best Charcuterie Accompaniment.

The classes cover the full range of British produced cured, preserved, hot- & cold-smoked charcuterie using all forms of meat, game and poultry. They are open to all British Charcuterie makers, traditional and innovative, including farmers, producers, butchers and chefs.

Henrietta Green, commenting on the new judging procedure for 2020, says: “Since setting up the awards in 2017, we have gained considerable insight into the independent judging procedure, and will be implementing a new approach that gives greater consistency to the product voting process, better feedback for the producers and full transparency. We have also set up a new system to ensure fairer judging between classes to ensure that the winning product and producer are the best there can be in this exciting category.”

To this end, British Charcuterie Live has appointed a new Chairman of the Judges, Keith Fisher, a Fellow of the Institute of Meat, who will use his expertise and experience to take a more active role in ensuring consistent standards of marking by the class judges.
Entry is open now through the British Charcuterie Live website

British Charcuterie Live has been able to keep entry prices at the 2019 level for entries received before 31st March 2020, and all producers entering the awards will get a free entry in Britain’s only online searchable charcuterie directory, and free use of the British Charcuterie Live Events Diary.

The British Charcuterie Live Awards - national, annual and independent - were created in 2017 to promote quality, variety and understanding of British Charcuterie.
