New chair announced for Q Guild of Butchers

David Lishman of award-winning Yorkshire butcher Lishman`s of Ilkley has been announced as the new chair of the Q Guild of Butchers.

The Q Guild is a seal of excellence marking over 120 of Britain`s best butchers. It represents an elite group of the finest quality independent meat retailers in Britain and is synonymous with skills, craftsmanship and above all, quality.  Members are based across the UK: from Inverness to Cornwall, serving £5 million worth of outstanding meat and related products to over a quarter of a million discerning UK consumers every week.  David takes over the role of chair from Mark Turnbull of Turnbulls of Alnwick.

David said: `I`m honoured to take on this role at the Q Guild of Butchers.  My own business has been a member for almost 20 years and I`ve truly valued the guild as a way of sharing knowledge, ideas and experience.  Joining a group of like-minded, passionate butchers has allowed my business to continually aim high - and of course, the Q Guild is all about recognising and driving up quality.  It`s a genuinely inspiring group.

As I start my role as chair, I`d like to focus on using our network of regional meetings to help support members in the guild.  This is such a worthwhile forum for sharing experience and it`s crucial that all our members are able to tap into this and receive value from their membership.`

Lishman`s of Ilkley, a family-run business, which has held Q Guild membership since 2000, first opened 30 years ago. It was established by David, who runs it with his daughter Emma.  It has won a number of prestigious accolades for its sausages and is renowned for its exceptional charcuterie. Lishman`s of Ilkley was named Best Butchers Shop of the year 2017 by the Meat Trades Journal. David was also captain of the first British butchery team that travelled to New Zealand and Australia to participate in the Trinations World Butchery Challenge. He previously held the role of National Vice Chairman of the Q Guild and was also named Master of the Gild of Butchers of the City of York in 2017.
