Q Guild Butcher in running for top pie prize

Inaugural LPPAS Awards Night

Higginsons Butchers of Grange are competing to be crowned champion pork pie makers in Lancashire at the inaugural Lancashire Pork Pie Appreciation Society Awards Night to be held on February 17 at the Black Bull in Edgworth.

Carl Abbott of LPPAS says that: `Higginsons are one of only 5 butchers in Lancashire to be presented with a Gold Award - the society`s highest accolade. The butchers from across the county will be presented with their Gold Awards on the night. Not only that though, the audience will be able to sample each of the pies to determine their overall champion for the year.

"The society holds monthly meetings at which pies from across Lancashire are sampled and rated. Some 30 different pies were sampled in 2017 and these 5 are our very highest rated. Each is a superb pie, expertly crafted to their own secret recipes. They are a world away from bland mass produced versions that most are familiar with.

"The society support Macmillan Cancer Support and so far has raised nearly £1000. We hope to increase that total to £1500 on the night. Rachel Lord of Higginsons commented that.

`I`m really proud to represent Higginsons at the awards night. Our pork pies are loved by our customers and we aim to prove that they are the best in Lancashire on the night.`
