Honeywell’s Farm Shop: celebrating food and farming in Lancashire

10 members of the family, 80 team member of 3 sites, decades of hands-on farming experience, and a traditional approach to butchery combine to make Honeywell`s what it is today: a celebration of local food, farmers and producers.

Stock up on quality produce that`s fresh from our farm, straight from our neighbours, or sourced from an exciting network of food artisans. The connection between the food in your basket and Lancashire`s best farmers and growers has never been stronger.

Our journey from garage stall to Butchers Q Guild

Our first foray into business was selling home-reared pork from a stall in our garage. While it seems a million miles from the purpose-built farm shop and food halls that we call home today, not much has really changed.

Here`s how we`ve grown our family business - there are now 10 of us involved, with 80 team members over 3 sites - without compromising our belief that high-quality, locally-sourced food is the best investment our customers can make:

1970

We began selling home-reared pork from our garage. As customer demand grew, we (the Gornalls) began to offer meat and local produce from neighbouring farms, including lamb from the Thornton family, which we still stock today. Before too long we had to move into the barn for more space, making us one of the original farm shops to trade in Lancashire.

2003

The Eaves Lane farm shop was built in November 2003, when we outgrew the barn. Moving into a purpose-built farm shop meant we could extend our range and include: mouth-watering, locally-produced meats from the butchery; a selection of cooked meats, salami, fresh pies and pastries, and local and continental cheeses from the delicatessen; and a wonderful range of goodies to complement and enhance your meals.

2008

Honeywell`s Butchery and Delicatessen opened up within the Barton Grange Garden Centre and farm shop complex. We see this as a natural extension of our farm shop so you can rest assured that the emphasis on quality and value remains the same.

2014

Honeywell`s Butchery opened within Bents Garden and Home, Food Hall, in Glazebury. We have a fabulous team at Bents and you can expect the same extensive range of products, and the same high level of customer service.

We were also thrilled to be awarded membership into the Butchers Q Guild in 2014, which celebrates traditional butchery at its very best.

From farm to fork - the Gornall family ethos

Our co-owners, Anthony and John Gornall, are proud to belong to the Butchers Q Guild and to be Smithfield Meat Industry winners of 11 awards. 5 of the awards for our produce were gold standard:

Lean and Tasty Pork Sausage

Cumberland and Black pudding Sausage

Traditional Sicilian Sausage

Family Chicken and Ham Pie

Individual Beef Wellington.

It all goes to show that we might be almost 50 years on from our humble beginnings in the garage, but our passion for good food with a local provenance remains as strong as when we started.

Anthony: We`re a traditional butchers, we source a lot of our meat directly from local farms, as well as being farmers ourselves, producing our own beef. We`re very keen on traceability from farm to fork and we`re very keen on locally sourced produce.

John: We aim to offer high quality at good value - it`s become more and more apparent that people are looking for great value, but they don`t want to compromise on the quality. We can offer our produce at prices people are happy to pay, but they`re also getting fantastic quality and helping the local farming community.
